Mandatory Pose Wednesday - Abdominal & Thigh

NEXT WEEK'S POSE: Rear Double Bicep

Excerpt from Troy's post on r/bodybuilding's Second Annual Online Bodybuilding Contest:

POSES - You must submit, in addition to the code word photo, just one photo of yourself in each of the following poses for your category of competition. If you need help with posing, photography, dieting or proper attire, please search the web for guidance. There are many good sites and videos on each subject. Of course, our FAQ also has good information on contest prep.

Here I'll be trying to create a practice environment for us to critique one another in preparation for this competition! What good is a world-class physique if you don't know how to show it off when it matters most? (Note: I will unfortunately only be posting the male version of these poses. If you have ideas for a female version of these threads please let the mods know.)

Welcome back to another installment! We're hitting Ab & Thigh today. No hiding BF% in this one!

1) As always, start from the ground up. Both knees and toes remain pointed outwards at 45° to ensure that quad sweep can be activated. The major differences between this pose and the other front poses are that the legs are not spread as far apart, and that one leg is forward. A different option would be to go on your heel of the front foot and spike your toes, it totally depends what you want to show, your calves or your tibialis anterior. Flex your legs HARD.

2) Next put both hands over your head, you can actually grab your head. Or put your hands by your ears like your going to do a sit-up. Either way, you want your elbows out towards the sides to create that dramatic “V” shape.

3) Crunch down and blow out all of your air. At the very end, make a little “cough” to get the last bit of air out and watch your abs rip up. To hold this pose with no air in your lungs takes a lot of practice and conditioning. Some people have mastered very shallow breathing techniques that do not compromise the pose very much, but another alternative is to change poses. This allows you both the opportunity to take a good breath, and you can also showcase different angles of your physique and your ability to “fight for it” on stage which if done tastefully can account for additional stage presence points.

Examples:

Phil, Kai, & Wolfie

"The Blade"

Frank Zane
